An Effective Alternative to Traditional Divorce Litigation
Family Law Attorney Laurie P. Mullen – Bristol County, Massachusetts
Divorce is a difficult process that can drain a person emotionally and financially. Especially where children are involved, the trauma of divorce is great enough without the added stress of a drawn-out court battle.
Fortunately, for parties willing to work at finding agreement, divorce mediation offers an effective, faster, less expensive and more civil alternative to traditional litigation. At Laurie P. Mullen, Attorney at Law, I work with clients to find an effective resolution to divorce that enables them to have greater control, rather than having a court impose its decisions upon them.
Having more control over the terms of your divorce means you have more control of your life after divorce. Schedule an appointment with an experienced divorce mediation lawyer by calling 508-679-9811, 508-252-2300, or contact me online.
Mediation is a voluntary and non-binding process of facilitated negotiation, where a divorcing couple comes to agreement on the terms of their divorce, including child custody, child support, spousal support/alimony and property division. The court must approve the terms of the settlement agreement in order for it to become binding on both parties.
In mediation, I act as the neutral third party, helping the parties arrive at an agreement. I do not represent either party, and I do not provide individual legal advice. I help the parties understand the many elements involved in divorce, present creative options for the parties to consider in coming to agreement and give them a realistic picture of what to expect.
Once the parties reach an agreement, I aid the parties in drafting the paperwork to file with the court. This includes a memorandum of understanding relative to the terms of any agreements reached during mediation. At that point, the parties may each retain their own legal counsel to review the paperwork and represent them at the court hearing as they deem necessary.
Reasons to Work with an Experienced Mediation Attorney
I have more than 25 years of experience, focusing my attention on family law. This experience gives me valuable insight into every mediation I handle. Unlike non-lawyer mediators who have little or no experience in a courtroom setting, I know the law, and I can assist couples in understanding what to expect during their divorce hearing.
In my years of practice, I have seen too many divorcing couples encounter significant problems because they worked with inexperienced mediators. These divorcing couples invest time and energy in mediation conferences and arrive at an agreement — only to find that it does not meet the court’s requirements.
I will help you avoid the many procedural pitfalls in the mediation process. During an already difficult time in your life, you want to make sure everything is done right the first time.
